Most adults with ADHD have spent their whole lives being told to try harder, focus more, get more organized. But you've already been trying twice as hard as everyone around you, and it still doesn't feel like enough. That's not a character flaw. That's an unsupported brain doing its best.
You know what you need to do, you want to do it, and somehow you still can't get started. Or you start, get pulled away, and never make it back.
Time is something other people seem to understand. You're either way too early or running late. A five-minute task takes an hour, or four hours feel like fifteen minutes.
Your emotions hit at full volume. Rejection lands harder, criticism stings longer, excitement bubbles over. You're not too sensitive, you're wired this way.
Your mind never quiets down. Thoughts come fast, all at once, all the time. Falling asleep feels like trying to land a plane in a windstorm.
The small things pile up: missed appointments, forgotten birthdays, the laundry you've been meaning to fold for two weeks. They add up into a feeling that you're failing at being a functional adult.
You've been called lazy, flaky, disorganized, too much, not enough. You've internalized so many of those labels that you're starting to believe them, even when part of you knows it isn't true.
ADHD isn't a moral failing or a discipline problem. It's a different way the brain is wired, with real challenges and real strengths. The challenges show up loudly because the world wasn't built for ADHD brains. But the strengths, the creativity, the deep focus when something matters, the empathy, the originality, those are real too. They've often been hiding under the exhaustion of trying to function in systems that weren't built for you.
In our work together, you won't be told to just try harder. You'll be met with curiosity, real understanding of how ADHD brains actually work, and the patience to build something sustainable. Therapy is where you stop fighting your brain and start working with it.
ADHD therapy is not about turning you into a neurotypical person. It's about understanding your brain, undoing the shame that has piled up, and building a life that actually fits how you're wired.
Together, we explore how your ADHD actually shows up for you. What helps, what doesn't, what triggers shutdown, what brings you alive. No two ADHD brains are the same, and the work starts with understanding yours.
Most adults with ADHD carry years of internalized criticism. We name it, look at where it came from, and start the slow work of letting it go. You can't build a good life on a foundation of self-blame.
Generic productivity advice rarely works for ADHD brains. My background in Neuroscience and Recreational Therapy means I understand how your brain processes information, motivation, and reward differently. We design strategies that fit how you actually function, not how you've been told you should.
Therapy ends when you feel less at war with yourself. You leave with a deeper understanding of your brain, the tools to work with it, and a real sense that you are not broken, you are wired differently, and that's allowed to be a good thing.
Within a few sessions, something shifts. You start to recognize that the things you've been beating yourself up about for years aren't character flaws. They're patterns. And patterns can be worked with.
You begin to notice your own strengths in a way you hadn't let yourself before. You catch yourself in a hyperfocus flow and realize what a gift it is. You finish something that used to feel impossible, and you feel proud instead of just relieved.
The inner critic gets quieter. The shame gets lighter. You start advocating for what your brain actually needs, instead of trying to hide it. You stop apologizing for taking up space. You start to like yourself again.

You've stopped trying to be someone you're not. You have routines and systems that actually fit how you function. The constant feeling of falling behind has eased.
Your creativity, your curiosity, your ability to hyperfocus on what matters, your big heart, those become the things you're known for. The challenges are still there, but they're manageable. The gifts are finally getting their turn.
The shame you've been carrying for years has lifted. You give yourself the grace you'd give anyone else. You stop apologizing for being you, and start enjoying being you.

I'm Dani Sablinskas, a Canadian Certified Counsellor working at Clear Counselling in Downtown Vancouver. I came to this work through my own experiences with therapy, and I know how hard and uncomfortable reaching out for help can be. My goal is to help you move through the discomfort and build a life you're proud of.
My background in both Neuroscience and Recreational Therapy gives me a holistic understanding of how the mind and body are connected, which is especially relevant when we're working with how an ADHD brain actually processes the world. I take the time to understand how your brain works, and we build from there.
I work with adults across British Columbia, both in person at my downtown Vancouver office and online. If you're ready to talk, I'd love to hear from you.
